Dolpo Camp Trek is one of the popular treks that takes you to the most remote western region of Nepal. This tough hike takes you to the rugged and isolated Dolpo region, where you will encounter ancient Buddhist monasteries, experience Tibetan-inspired culture, and enjoy the magnificent views of Himalayan peaks such as Kanjirowa Himal (6,612 m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m). The Dolpo Camp Trek itinerary starts from Jhupar after flights from Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. You will then pass through Shey Phoksundo National Park, home to the magnificent Phoksundo Lake (3,600 m), one of the deepest lakes in Nepal. The hike then continues through forested areas, high mountain passes, and barren lands, offering stunning views of the nearby Himalayan ranges. You will also have the opportunity to visit ancient monasteries such as Shey Gompa (4160 m), one of the oldest monasteries in the region. The challenging yet rewarding Upper Dolpo trek offers a unique perspective on the people and environment of this remote region of Nepal. For those looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure in the Himalayas while exploring the spectacular landscapes and rich cultural history of the Dolpo region, Marong Treks offers the Upper Dolpo Trek as an ideal option. Dolpo is also an ideal place to harvest Yarsagumba, or "Cordyceps Fungus", which is found at altitudes of 3,500-5,000 meters in the Himalayan grasslands of Nepal. The Yarsagumba harvesting season usually lasts from March to June. Locals visit the high altitude meadows during this time to harvest the precious caterpillar fungus, known for its therapeutic properties. Other popular Nepal trekking destinations include the Everest region, with numerous trekking packages including the Everest region, which offers views of the world's highest peak, Mt. Everest (8,848m).
